Application for beam time on the LULI laser facilities will soon be open for the period April 2011 - March 2012. The closing date will be the 15th of August, 2010.

Standard access

Proposals, written in English, must be sent, by e-mail, to access.luli@polytechnique.fr. They will be evaluated at the end of September and notification of the final decision will occur before the end of October 2010. Available access will be granted on the basis of scientific merit and appropriateness to the targeted facility.
The chances of success will be increased if the experiment be carried out in close collaboration with internal research teams. The applicant is then strongly encouraged to contact them (according to the investigated thematic) before writing the final version of the proposal. By doing so, he will be able to determine whether the experiment can be efficiently carried out at the targeted facility. He will also be familiarized with operation procedures and diagnostics provided if his proposal be selected.

Three experimental areas will be open and the corresponding allowed configurations are given below for  ELFIE (left), LULI2000/nano2000 (center) and LULI2000/pico2000 (right).

More information on the facilities can be found here.

Contact persons

Do not hesitate to contact access.luli@polytechnique.fr for any further information or research topics.

Instructions are given below. Please follow them in order to provide the selection panel with all the required information and elements of evaluation.

Furthermore, prior to this latter, the feasibility (in terms of laser parameters, experimental configuration & radio-safety) of your proposed experimental campaign will be checked; careful and detailed writing is then mandatory.

Special access

Instructions to write and submit your proposal

Step 1

Please follow the guidelines to write your proposal.

It should contain the following chapters

  1. SCIENTIFIC CASE: please detail the scientific objectives of the experiment, its international context and the expected added value of the results; indicate the experimental methods and the diagnostics that will be used to fulfill these objectives, provide a mandatory experimental set-up showing all the beams that will be displayed, including their incidence on target; give the laser characteristics for each beam (energy or intensity, duration and wavelength) ; if CPA beams will be used, provide any information required to assess the radiological risks (target material, ...)  (6 pages max.)

  2. SHOT PLAN (LULI2000 only - assuming no more then 5 shots per day at full energy)

  3. EXPERTISE OF THE EXPERIMENTAL CONSORTIUM: please describe the group expertise and the role of each participant, including remote users involved in theory and/or simulations (1 page max.)

  4. PREVIOUS ACCESS: mention previous experiments conducted since 2007 at the LULI facilities, including ensuing publications (1 page max.)

Step 2

Fill in the attached LULI-call2011_heading.pdf form, print it and send the corresponding .pdf file to access.luli@polytechnique.fr with your proposal in .pdf or .doc format.
